Marburg virus disease is a rare but severe hemorrhagic fever caused by the Marburg virus, which belongs to the same family as the Ebola virus. It is transmitted to humans from fruit bats and spreads between people through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals or contaminated materials.
